History

R
ichard Johnson established Kamara Photographic Studio in Lincoln in 1988, after gaining 12 years experience in the photographic trade within the Royal Air Force.

He has since won national awards for the high quality of work, which has also been recognised within the profession by the award of Associate Membership in both the British Institute of Professional Photography and the Master Photographers Association.

His qualifications and reputation have resulted in commissions from all areas of the United Kingdom.

In 1999 having outgrown the original premises in Lincoln, Kamara invested and had built, Lincolnshire's only independent purpose built studio on Limekiln Way. The new studio enables the company to offer a unique service, providing ideal facilities for both commercial and social photography of the highest quality.

The 18th January 2000 was the official opening day of the new multifunctional studio. Tony Lawrence, Director of Fuji Photo Film (UK) Ltd, performed the ceremony. He said, "It is great to see such a professional and well-equipped studio being opened in Lincolnshire, and Fuji Film fully supports any venture which offers better quality."

April 2002 saw the biggest leap forward for Kamara with the investment of over £75,000. Continuing investment has transformed a film based company into Lincolnshire's leading digital studio. All post production work is carried out in house on the lastest Apple Macinstosh systems complemented by in house Fuji photographic output. At this time, to help implement all the new state of the art equipment and technology, the company employed the best-qualified photographers from the digital age.

Going into 2008 and onwards Richard has put together an experienced and qualified team which combines not only excellent and talented photographers but also the best behind the scenes administration support. With both sides working together they unite Kamara Digital Photographic Studio as the market leader it is today. One of these leading members...

...Shaun D Smith, already with a degree in still image and new media, has recently been awarded a licentiate qualification into the ranks of the Master Photographers Association (MPA). The MPA is the leading organisation within the photographic industry. It prides itself on the quality of its members. Membership of the association is only open to full time professional photographers, with strict entry requirements.

Eric Jenkins, chairman of the qualifying committee said: "it is a great honour for a photographer to be awarded a qualification and have their work recognised. A Licentiate award indicates that the photographer is a qualified member of the association. It also demonstrates their competency in their chosen field of photography which reassures members of the public that they are using the services of a qualified photographer."

This level of achievement shows their thorough understanding of camera techniques, lighting and composition and, of course, the ability to deliver quality photography.
