Richard Johnson established Kamara Photographic Studio in Lincoln in 1988, after gaining 12 years experience in the photographic trade within the Royal Air Force.

He has since won national awards for the high quality of his work, which has also been recognised within the profession by the award of Associate Membership in both the British Institute of Professional Photography and the Master Photographers Association. His qualifications and reputation have resulted in commissions from all areas of the United Kingdom.

In 1999, having outgrown the original premises just off Lincoln High Street, Kamara invested and had built Lincolnshire's only independent purpose built multi functional studio. The Studio is located on Limekiln Way, off Greetwell Road. The new studio enables the company to offer a unique service, providing ideal and easily accessible facilities including free car parking and disabled access for both commercial and social clients.

On the 18th January 2000 was the official opening day of the new multifunctional studio. Tony Lawrence, then Director of Fuji Photo Film (UK) Ltd, performed the ceremony. He said, "It is great to see such a professional and well-equipped studio being opened in Lincolnshire, and Fuji fully supports any venture which offers better quality."

In April 2002 saw a major leap forward with an investment of over £75,000, transforming Kamara from a film based company into Kamara Digital Photographic Studio which is now one of Lincolnshire's leading digital studio’s. This massive investment has resulted in increased sales in both the commercial and social sectors.

Richard has put together an experienced and qualified team which combines not only excellent and talented photographers but also the best behind the scenes administrative support. With both sides working together they ensure Kamara Digital Photographic studio is the market leader it has become today.

On the photographic side Shaun D Smith who joined the team in April 2002, already with a degree in still image and new media has been awarded a Licentiate qualification into the ranks of Master Photographers Association (MPA). The MPA is one of the leading organisation within the photographic industry. It prides itself on the quality of its members. Membership of this association is only open to full time professional photographers, with strict entry requirements.

Eric Jenkins, chairman or the qualifying committee said: “it is a great honour for a photographer to be awarded a qualification and have their work recognised. A Licentiate award indicates that the photographer is a qualified member of the association. It also demonstrates their competency in their chosen field of photography which reassures members of the public that they are using the services of a qualified photographer. This level of achievement shows their thorough understanding of camera techniques, lighting and composition and, of course, the ability to deliver quality photography”.

Over the last 9 years, Shaun can be very proud of his achievements and experience he has gained at Kamara, resulting in 2009 being promoted to the senior wedding photographer within Kamara, with total responsibility for all weddings. Many of Shaun’s stunning photographs can be seen on the website.

On the administrative side to compliment the team Roy Bentley joined in April 2008 after serving 21 years in the RAF as an administrator, whilst gaining NVQ level 3 in business administration. He is now Studio Manager and is responsible for all the administration of the Studio.
